| I just purchased a 68 Camaro, I want to keep it all oringinal, how do I use the fender tag to figure out what options the car came with new? |

| Unfortunately there is very little information on a 68 trim tag that will help you find out how your car was actually built. The only real way to know that would be to find a build sheet in the car and they are quite rare too. | I have the protect o Plate, where do I find the numbers to decode that. I was also wondering if anyone has found their built sheet and if so where was it located? |

Cool............having the POP (protect-o-plate) will tell you the major drivetrain components and some major options.  To decode the POP, again, go to the CRG site. http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#POPCodes If you have trouble figuring out how the decoder works, you can send me a picture of the POP and I'll decode it for you. I can't get my email to show up in my profile, so shoot me a PM and I will send it to you.
Finding a build sheet involves a lot of detective work and disassembly of components. If if is an LA built car they have been most often found on top of the gas tank. Other popular places are in the seats. If the car is relatively unmolested, remove the back seat and the backs on the front seats. After that it involves removing the front seats to look underneath, removing the carpet and the glovebox liner. As you can see/read, these locations are often stumbled upon during a restoration where these areas are being pulled apart anyway.

WOW, thank you very much. I have printed everything off now I will go and right it up and then tomorrow check to see if everything is what it is supposed to be. I hope it is all original!!!!!

Yeah, it takes some time to learn to read the "fields" but the detective work is part of the excitement........ |
