Anyone successfully install a Saginaw 4-speed in a 69?
I need help determining what shifter linkages/components to use. Only Muncies were offered that year so there is no reference for this application.

| You didn't specify if you are using a console or not and if you intend to use Muncie or Hurst shifter/linkage. Hurst will have a kit to fit most any application without the console, but you may need to look at a 68 application to get the right combo to use with the console as the 68-69 consoles are the same. If you are thinking of using a vintage Muncie shifter, you would need one for the 68 also. |

Sorry,
I have the correct Hurst shifter (with offset neck) for the 69 but the shifter to tranny mount and linkages are for a 2nd gen. The Saginaw date code is 1976. I currently do not have a console but would like to have the otion of installing one later. Right now all I want is for the shifter to exit the floor in the same hole as my 3-speed stick did. I do also have the correct "aftermarket" hurst "square" stick (not the original round stick). I was told that if I use the 67-68 setup the shifter would be too far forward (or too far back, I don't remember).

| Hmmmmmm.............I don't see why a 68 bracket and linkage would put the shifter body in the wrong position, since the 68-69 consoles are the same. Let me look into this a little more on another Camaro board. Someone there may have firsthand experience. |

Another idea was suggested to buy the 69 Muncie setup and and everything should work except the reverse rod. Then i would just be left with the challenge of fabricating a reverse rod.
Initially I was with your line of thinking, that the 67-68 setup would do the trick.
Supposedly this is a Saginaw with a 69 shifter setup but I couldn't find out what rods, etc are used....

I found the same info you were given on the "other" board too.....LOL
It appears you need the shifter to trans mount that is pictured and then try to find Saginaw linkage rods. Did you get any rods with the trans ?? Another source of parts for this and maybe more help would be on http://www.NastyZ28.com They are mostly into the 2nd gen stuff and that is were your trans came from. Someone on there may have the parts you need for this install. |

I did get 2nd gen rods and mounting plate with it. The shifter mounts way too high with it. If I could just find an answer to the question of whether or not the 69 install kit mounting plate will bolt to my saginaw I can work around everything else.
Thanks a bunch for taking the time to help.
I'll check out the site you suggested.
I'm also calling every resto parts supplier (Classic, Rick's, NPD, YearOne, etc.) as well as Hurst to see what feedback I get today.
I'll post any confirmed info on this topic here and Team Camaro. |

The pic you posted above seems to be the mount that you need and is pictured on Team Camaro by itself. Calling Hurst is probably a good way to go as they should know if they have that mount. Another member on TC posted that he has a FACTORY installed Saginaw with a Hurst shifter and offered his help in identifying what you need. Here's a link to the thread.

I found the reverse lever at a swap meet last week (needle in a hay stack) and I bought the installation kit for a 69 Camaro Muncie. Everything in the kit bolted right up, except of course the reverse rod.
Now I have to fabricate a reverse rod and i'll be in bussiness.
So for the record, the Muncie shifter mounting plate for 69 will bolt to a saginaw and the 1-2, 3-4 rods and levers work too. Reverse is the challenge.

Cool, glad you got it figured out and found the needle.....
Bending up a rod from leftovers shouldn't be too hard. |
